Marsa Alam is an upmarket resort on the Red Sea and becoming very popular with sun worshipers, divers and windsurfers alike. It has its own international airport which opened in 2003 and Marsa Alam started out as a small fishing village but has retained all of its charm and beauty. Marsa Alam is rich in historical sites. A wide range of expeditions, boat trips and excursions to surrounding resorts, towns and historic sites are available. The Emerald Mines, Myos Hormos, Quseir Fortress and Wadi Hammamat are amongst those well worth a visit.
Do take the opportunity to experience either Camel or a jeep safari so that you take in the true taste of the desert. Hurghada International Airport is around 197 miles (317 km) away and the main resort is 66 miles (107 km) from Marsa Alam airport. Flights to Marsa Alam are thin on the ground but Hurghada is around a 3 hour transfer away with return transfers costing from around £275 return for up to four passengers.
