Around 1500bc A volcano exploded (not erupted) and fell into the sea. This can be seen by the landscape of Santorini today. You will notice the sea splits the mainland of Santorini up with some volcanic cliffs out at sea. This area is known as the Caldera.
If you are a traveller that loves culture and in particular ruins. Then you must visit the excavated Minoan village of Akrotiri. This village was believed to of been destroyed by the volacano at around 1627bc.
For the beach lovers, then Red beach is the most popular. It is a pebble beach made up of red and black pebbles which have been moulded by the volcano over thousands of years. If you prefer a sandy beach, then visit Kamari.
Santorini does boast some of the most beautiful Greek villages that you will ever see and some stunning breath-taking walks.

Flights to Santorini are limited. You can find flights from Birmingham, Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Newcastle. Santorini is shut between November and the end of April.
