Corfu comes alive during the summer months with tourist flying in from all over Europe. They’re attracted to this popular Greek island simply for fun and sun but there is much more to see on this lovely island. If you venture out from the holiday hot-spot of Corfu Town you will find some spectacular scenery and greenery. Corfu is famous for its wild orchids and has over 40 different varieties on offer. Away from the main resorts you will discover secluded bays with great uncrowded beaches lapped by the clear blue waters of the Ionian Sea.


For those who don’t want to explore there is plenty to see and do in Corfu Town which is modern and upbeat. The old town was planned by the Venetians way back in the 14th century and follows the Italian style of architecture with pastel-coloured buildings topped of with the famous red tiles roofs. The town center offers rows of cafes and restaurants, and reflects the look and style of the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. For those tourist who are seeking a look at the past then a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Corfu Town will be rewarding. Another worthwhile visit is to the Museum of Asian Art where you can marvel at Chinese and Japanese works of art through all the main dynasties. The museum also has a selection of Japanese prints, ceramics and sculptures.

Shopping

There are a good selection of craft shops and grocery stores in which to shop. There is an ATM and an internet cafe too, so without being remote or isolated Agios Gordios offers the perfect alternative to the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

Festivals

During the summer season, visitors will enjoy countless of glorious events which are dedicated to the saints. The Carnival of Corfu resembles a lot to the Carnival of Venice, as it has its roots in the Venetian occupation of the island in the 17th century. The Varkarola is a special local event which is celebrated every August with choirs in boats singing cantades (traditional romantic songs from the late 19th/early 20th century) while fireworks light up the sky. For cricket fans Corfu even as a Cricket festival which takes places in the huge cricket ground in Espianada Square, Corfu Town. There are also the religious festivals which start at Easter. Then there’s the ones to celebrate Saint Spiridon is the patron saint of Corfu. Locals celebrate the saint four times a year: on December 12th, on the Sunday before Easter, on the first Sunday of November and on August 11th.

Head to the beach

On the West side of the island, the beaches are sandier while the East tends to have calmer waters. Agios Georgios is a sandy beach with clubs, bars and many hotels. Agios Stefanos is a long sandy beach located in a scenic fishing village. Glyfada beach is situated 15 km from Corfu Town, with turquoise waters, golden sand and beach bars. Kavos beach located southeast of Corfu Town is extremely popular amongst the younger crowds.

Corfu Aqualand The Aqualand water park is one of the most amazing and adventurous places to visit on Corfu and offers a great day out for children, families and all who are young in spirit. Relax under our beautiful maple trees or enjoy the thrill of our multi-slides. Children: Children’s water games are located in big swimming pools with depth of only 40 cm making them safe even for our very small friends. There are two children areas with water games. Caribbean Pirate – with easy water slides, water showers and different secret paths to discover the treasures of the Big Caribbean Pirate. It is an adventurous water game which every child would enjoy. The second area is a big shallow pool with easy water slides which are suitable for our little friends and their parents. It is a complex of games made to create the Fantasy Islands (Screaming Frog, Ramp, Shower Mushroom and Slippery Octopus). One thing’s for sure, playing in the water has never been more fun!. Corfu Parga - Paxos Day trip How about spending a day exploring on a boat rather than on a coach? First stop is picture postcard - Parga. This mainland resort rises out of the sea and is set like an amphitheatre, with small pastel coloured houses covering the slopes that surround the small secluded bay. The small harbour and narrow walkways boast some of the finest restaurant and bars. There are plenty of cafes where chairs spill across the pavement and give visitors the chance to sit back and drink in the atmosphere. Next stop Paxos - this island oozes charm. Tiny with pretty cafes fringe the crescent shaped quayside harbour of Gaios which is backed by a handsome Venetian square. Whitewashed alleys lead off the main square, where great pottery and jewellery shops can be found. If shopping isn’t your thing, then the crystal blue waters on both Parga and Paxos may tempt you; so pack your swim things!


Blue Lagoon with Theo – All day boat trip Description Theo is a legend around Corfu and our customers cannot get enough of him. Join us as we sail through the clear waters of the Ionian Sea to the historic caves of Papanikolis, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the lighthouse. The boat will then take you to the Blue Lagoon, where we have time for a cool refreshing swim, before sailing on to the beautiful beach of Ayia Paraskevi. On our way, we will pass many small Islands so keep cameras to the ready. Once we reach Ag. Paraskevi, we will be stopping for another dip before heading on to the picturesque fishing village of Sivota, situated on the Greek mainland. Here you will have free time to explore the small shops, sample the local cuisine and soak up the charming atmosphere. Meeting/ pick-up point: Hotel pick up. Start/opening time: 7.45pm. Booze Cruise - Day boat trip You will love this mega booze cruise. We’ll pick you up at 10.30am, and you’ll set sail for Kalamas Beach in Greece at 11. Nick Holmes, Kavos’ best resident DJ, will be on the decks, and there’s a bar on board, so make sure you bring a few quid for it. You’ll get a few swim-stops on the way, and we’ll throw in a free BBQ lunch on the beach. Plus, there’s the infamous Rave in a Cave to look forward to. Expect a foam party on deck with the tunes cranked up to the max. After all that, we’ll have you back in Kavos at 5.30. Meeting/ pick-up point: Hotel pick up. Start/opening time: 10.30am. End/closing time: 5 – 6pm.

First stop is the stunning area of Paleocastritsa, a must see for any visitor to the island. Various Boat Trips from Corfu Town As Corfu is an island you won’t be surprised to learn that there are several boat trips on offer. One of the most popular trips is via a glass bottom boat from Corfu Town. The tour combines two of Corfu’s biggest attractions: the Ionian Sea and Corfu Town. You’ll sail towards the small green island of Vidos. Sit by the large windows for a grandstand view of the underwater world, spying shoals of fish and swaying seagrass. Once you reach Vidos, you’re in for another treat: a sea lion show. On the return cruise, enjoy the views as you come into Corfu harbour where you will have free time to explore the capital. Another cruise takes you along the island’s east coast. Drift by dinky harbour villages, steep cliffs and the rugged hulk of Mount Pantokrator. Once you arrive in the capital, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to look round by yourself. With your explorations over here, you’ll then head back to the port for your return cruise.
