Costa Almeria Attractions and things to do on the Costa Almeria

Almeria boasts about 200 miles of varied, scenic coastline that attracts tourists to its developed resorts near the main towns, but also offers idyllic spots for nature-lovers to explore with its many unspoilt fishing villages, long sandy beaches and small intimate coves popular with nudists. Most visitors flock to the holiday resorts to the east and west of the lively capital city of Almeria, which boasts picturesque squares, some worthy sights to see, cafes, a ferry port and marina. Lovely beaches, marinas, hotels and sports centers provide plenty to keep holiday-makers happy in the resort towns of Mojacar to the east, and Anguadulce, Roquetas de Mar and Almerimar to the west of the city.


There is plenty to see and do whilst in Costa Almeria and we have listed a few ideas below. Aqua Vera Water Park Have fun in the Vera waterpark, sliding by toboggans, multitrack and enjoying the attractions of River Aventura, Kamikaze and Black Hole Immerse yourself in the waved swimming pool and there´s nothing better than a laked pool for having a rest. Aquarium Roquetas de Mar Spend a great family day out in the company of the inhabitants of the world’s oceans at Andalucía’s largest and newest aquarium in Roquetas de Mar. This exciting and educational centre ensures you will see the best close-up views of many different denizens of the deep, with more than 300 species of fish, including some of the most spectacular tropical species such as piranha, clown fish and sea-horses. Go deeper into the ocean and get a close up on the fascinating creatures that inhabit our seas, from beautiful starfish to baleful sharks. You’ll discover many amazing sea creatures on this fascinating tour around this interactive aquarium. Fun for the whole family is assured. The aquarium is organised around a water-cycle themed exhibition. Learn all about the life cycle of water, passing though condensation in the clouds, rain, rivers, the seas and the oceans, travelling though different eco-systems (ocean, Mediterranean, tropical) where you will meet undersea creatures and amazing flora and fauna. You will also get the chance to feed the cute stingrays - an experience you won’t forget in a long time. And then you can take a well-earned rest and recharge your batteries in our cafeteria with its relaxing sea-views and children’s play area. To get any closer, you may have to get wet.


Oasys ParkFollow in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone with a day at Oasys Park. Located in Tabernas, Europe’s only desert, this former film set where many famous spaghetti westerns were shot has been transformed into the most original leisure park in the Mediterranean, with live shows recreating life in the old Wild West. The park also contains a small zoo and nature reserve, containing more than 150 animal species from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas in their natural habitat. Wild West shows are hosted daily. There is also a small museum housing camera equipment, projectors and memorabilia. Escape from the heat with a cold beer and a snack at the Saloon as you watch a can-can show. And when you’ve seen enough of the Wild West, you can take some time out and have a refreshing dip in the pool. The zoo and nature reserve is also well worth a visit. You shouldn’t miss a trip aboard the new “Bear2Bear” train from which it is possible to observe animals in their natural habitat. Other attractions include the Museum of Animal Footprints, a reptile enclosure a crocodile pond, an aviary with exotic birds and a children’s zoo, making for a great day out for all the family. The zoo is spread out over quite a large area so be prepared for some walking or catch the train. Remember you are in a desert and, especially in the summer months, it can get very hot so don’t forget the sun block.


Camel ride in Mojacar Come and experience a camel ride next to the beach where people get wonderful pictures. During the 30 minutes trip we continue along the reed of Río de Aguas, from which we have a nice view to Mojacar Village. At the “Camel-Stop” there is a tent for shadow and some chairs for the public watching at the caravan. Meeting/pick-up point: The camels stop is opposite the Hotel Marina Beach, on the shore of the beach, clearly visible from the Avda. The Mediterranean. This place is at the end of Mojacar Playa Garrucha direction (eastbound), only 2.00 km of this town.


Sailing school Kitesurf, Windsurf or Catamaran Learn the most exciting sports over the sea. Get the basic knowledge and enjoy an unforgettable experience. KITESURF Despite the appearance of being an extreme sport it is very accessible to new practitioners and does not require a strong physical condition, this is because it is a sport that requires a good knowledge of technical security principles and a lot of practice. It is a very rewarding sport from the start as it is very practical and the mere fact of learning the secrets of kite flying, from there, we forget the world because Kitesurf requires our maximum attention, and then we will experience the sensations that kite flying conveys. WINDSURF This is a sport that combines sliding with sailing. At first, it was a little more inaccessible by the characteristics of the boat, because it required a great skill, however, thanks mainly to the development of the material it is now very accessible. Obtaining the first sensations of sliding through the water powered by the wind within 2 hours of the course. From here we cannot stop, because the amount of feelings that develop when we slide with the boat, feeling the water beneath our feet driven by harnessing the wind in our sail. You do not need great physical condition because you can adapt the material, but first of all we teach you some basic knowledge of the technique, the basic principles of navigation and safety measures. CATAMARAN Browse and glide over the waves at high-speed catamaran and no sound except the wind and water, is an unforgettable experience. Catamaran is the real Formula 1 from the sea. Although they share the same basic principles of Catamaran particularity with respect to the monohull is that because of its two hulls get a very stable making navigation a great sense of slip, with great confidence. It is a sport that does not require a special physical condition, you can practice and perfect from the start is easy to handle and control. It is recommended that the first steps be made in an Official Centre, which has the resources and staff necessary for proper initiation.


Karting in Roquetas Karting provides a different way of having fun in a sporting, exciting, safe and easy manner; organized in such a way that they can be enjoyed by everyone. The facilities at the Karting Roquetas are amongst the most modern and advanced in Europe, in all senses, the design according to FIA regulations and the size of the circuits, as well as with the computerized riming system and remote stoppings; with latest generation Karting vehicles and all appropriate safety measures. There are different karts suitable for all ages: Pony Kart (80 cc) for children aged between 5 and 8 years old; Junior Kart (125 cc), for children aged between 7 and 12 years old; Super Kart, for persons aged 13 and above. Duration: / or 20 minutes depending on the option selected. Start/opening time: Between 15th June and 15th September, open daily from 10am to midnight. The rest of the year, open Monday to Thursday, from 1pm to 9pm, Fridays from midday to 11pm and Saturdays and Sundays, from 10am to 10pm.


Summer camp for children Come to spend a funny summer full of emotions. Enjoy a multi-activity nautical sports program in which we include a wide variety of water and beach sports, more focused on the water, such as windsurfing, sailing, surfing, sup, kite surfing, kayaking, snorkelling… A proposal that we have been developing since its inception in 2006, and that has become one of the most popular over time, combining knowledge and the development of new sports sharing them with new and old friends. In addition, different events will be programmed along the season, such as Pirate Gymkhana, the Triathlon, Testing Surfing, and a trip to Aquatic Park, Windsurfing regatta and Sailing. The programs are developed in different groups, organized mainly by similar ages. The Activities will be weekly distributed in order to enjoy all week; depending on weather conditions such arrangement may be changed, always ensuring a safe, secure a fun activity. The program is divided into several stages, including warm up, based on games; preparation of equipment to be used, implementation of the activity with a break for a sandwich under the shade, implementation of the second block of activities and keep back the material. Start/opening time: From the 15th June to the 15th September, at 10am until 2pm
