Ibiza Attractions and things to do in Ibiza

You would be wrong to think that an Ibiza holiday was only suited to those youngsters who wanted to rave all night and lazy about during the daytime on one of its nudist beaches. Yes, the island still offers all of this but it has moved on since the 1960’s to cater for a wider audience including families and couples of all ages. San Antonio or as some would call it “Sin” Antonio still offers some of the best nightclubs and disco’s in the Med but move a few miles out and you’re in a different world. An Ibiza holiday can offer some great beaches, a rugged yet beautiful coastline, quaint villages and a very warm welcome.

Shopping

Away from the sea front in Santa Eulalia, is a good selection of quality shops offering a variety of goods including good quality clothes and shoes. The shops at Santa Eulalia are considered to offer a more sophisticated selection than other resorts and good on offer include an amazing range of artefacts, interior decorations, high-fashion leather goods and Jewellery apart from all the tourist shop goods like sportswear, surf-wear, gifts & souvenirs, paintings, leather goods, mallorquin pearls, unique as four crystal, toys for children, music, riojas, exotic liqueurs, miniatures, champagnes and much more at very affordable prices. All the shops are open throughout the year catering to the large tourist population and the locals. Es Cana is famous for its hippy market where you can buy virtually anything from Ibicencan craft work to glassware and leather ware. The Hippy Market is held every Wednesday between the months of May and October, on the grounds of the club Punta Arabi.

Head to the beach

The delightful island of Ibiza has over 50 sandy beaches, ranging from large popular beaches such as San Antonio Bay where numerous water sports are available, including windsurfing, scuba diving, fishing and boating, to small secluded beaches where visitors can just relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. San Eulalia is a firm favourite among those desiring a quieter holiday. The long, lovely promenade which spans the length of the wide, curved beach and adorned with palm trees is definitely worth a stroll. The nice and peaceful beach is safe for swimmers and water sport activities. Es Cana is a lively tourist resort with one of the longest beaches on the island and a small harbour for fishing boats.

These caves are situated in a protected area on cliffs overlooking the sea at a height of 12/14 metres with great views out over the Med and the nearby islands of Murada and Ferradura. The caves themselves are 100,000 years old, consisting of a maze of limestone galleries containing amazing fossilised rock formations including massive stalagmites and stalactites, underground lakes with fabulous scenery and deep dripping galleries where time seems to have stood still. The caves were previously used by smugglers who used them for hiding their contraband and you can still the place they used for hoisting their wares up from the sea. If you look closely you will also be able to the daubs of red or black paint they used to signpost escape routes in cases of flight or emergency. The highlight of the visit has to be the light show centred on a replica of the fossilised waterfall that was removed when the caves were first opened to the public.

Formentera ferry ticket from San Antonio Just two nautical miles south of Ibiza is the stunning and virtually unspoiled island of Formentera, one of the few remaining secrets of not just the Balearics but the whole of Europe. A visit to this idyllic hideaway is the icing on the cake of any Ibiza holiday. Sail along the scenic west coast of Ibiza on one of our boats, which combine the most modern systems of navigation and security with the maximum comfort. Most of them have the submarine vision system. There are five departures per week from June through September and three in May and October. Formentera is as famed for its mile upon mile of virgin beaches of golden sands, surrounded by crystalline waters, as it is for its lack of high rises. It is like travelling back in time to the Mediterranean that existed before mass tourism. Visitors usually make a beeline for beautiful beaches such as Es Cavall d'en Borras, Es Caló, Illetes, Es Pujols, Migjorn and S'Arenal as well as the islet of S’Espalmador, which is famed for its mud baths and is separated from the main island by a shallow channel that barely reaches shoulder height. Formentera is a byword for chilling out.

Begin the fun with the luxury of an open bar: drinks (whiskey, vodka, gin and rum) cocktails, a wide range of spirits and wines, Champagne, sangria, beer, Lambrusco, soft drinks and juices.
