Sharm el Sheikh Attractions and things to do in Sharm

Sharm el Sheikh is located on the coastal strip between the Red Sea and Mount Sinai in Egypt and is a holiday Mecca in no uncertain terms. This region is internationally known for its great diving sites, just off the coast where a rich diversity of marine life can be experienced. The weather during the peak summer months is hot, very hot and pale skinned northern Europeans should stay clear or be prepared to keep in the shade. The best time to visit Sharm is between the months of October through to April where you will enjoy the sunshine much better.


Sharm el Sheikh is a large area along the Red Sea coastline starting with Dahab in the north (about 90 km - 55 miles) from the center of Sharm and the resort offers some lovely relaxing all inclusive hotels and a great beach. Within Sharm itself the main three areas are Na'ama Bay, Nabq and Shark's Bay all offering something slightly different. However, unless you are sure that you wish to be in one of the three regions of Sharm, we advise you to run a general search for all resorts.


Besides excellent snorkelling and scuba diving, there are plenty of other watersports available if one feels like doing more than just soaking up the sun. Other activities include camel treks and horse riding, desert safaris, golf and health treatments. The resort also offers a choice of great waterparks to keep all ages happy. Add this to the vibrant nightlife with discos, casinos and nightclubs and nobody should ever complain of boredom. If you’re seeking an active holiday then Sharm el Sheikh could be ideal. Shopping

Shopping in Sharm el-Sheikh is a treat for one and all. The tourists may not find prolific malls and swank shopping malls at Sharm el-Sheikh. But what you will find is more than the ostentatious shopping centres of big cities. There are plenty of shops around the sites and many attractions from where you can buy diverse food and drink, Jewellery, leather products, fur shops, handmade and fine art products.

Nightlife

Sharm el-Sheikh guarantees a fun-filled vibrant nightlife. There are a plethora of options for those night birds who love to party. There are a host of interesting bars, night clubs and pubs. To amuse the visitors, the bars and the pubs often host special nights.

Head to the beach

Long stretches of natural sand and pebbles beaches are surrounded by a dramatic landscape. The waters around Sharm are clear and calm for most of the year. St. Catherine Monastery Visit St. Catherine's Monastery, the most important religious site in Sinai on a day trip from Sharm el Sheikh. Travel in air-conditioned bus with a guide who will introduce you to the history and religious significance of the monastery and its surrounds. Situated at the base of the mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments, St Catherine's Monastery is one of the most famous in the world. During your visit you will see chapel Greek Orthodox Church, the icons of worship and the famous Mosaic of Transfiguration. This site is worth visiting even if you're not religious, not only for the historical interest of the site but also for the surrounding of the monastery with the landscape stunning scenery which diffuse a pace that allows us to connect to the antique glory of this site. 4 X 4 Desert Adventure Safari Give the all-inclusive holiday makers a wave as you drive off into the desert, away from the resort-laden Sharm el-Sheikh and into the more authentic landscape of Egypt. The desert tour will take you into a canyon, fill your belly with Bedouin food, and teach you how to sandboard. All in a day’s work! Escape Sharm el-Sheikh for an off-road desert adventure Take a 4x4 Jeep journey into the desert Hike through a canyon nestled in limestone walls Discover the flavours of Bedouin cuisine with a local lunch Mingle with local Bedouin families and sip tea Conquer the dunes – learn how to sandboard! You kick off your day tour from Sharm el-Sheikh by getting picked up from your hotel at 7am and setting out into the desert in a Jeep with your local guide. The morning drive will take us around 2.5 hours, so you can shake off the shackles of sleep with the incredible desert views, or catch a few more z’s if you’re not a morning person! We’ll stop be the roadside a couple of times on this ride, because the photo ops are unmissable. We’ll see the change from mountain range to desert plateau as we head into the canyon, a fascinating part of the world where a number of Bedouin families call home. We’ll jump out of the Jeep when we reach the top of the canyon, and take a hike down a chimney of rock sculpted out by the winds over hundreds of years. Your local guide will be with you the entire way, so don’t worry if you’re not a pro-climber! With your guide, you’ll make it safely down to the valley floor, from where you’ll hike for around an hour amongst the stunning limestone canyon walls. Next stop – lunch time. We’ll take a break on this Egypt desert tour to refuel our bodies with some typical Bedouin lunch. Your local guide will prepare the food while you take a rest or explore the area for a little while – or you’re welcome to give you leader a hand and learn some Bedouin techniques if you wish! In true Bedouin style, we’ll cook over an open fire and enjoy this delicious meal around a camp fire with the group. Your desert tour will also make a stop off at a local Bedouin house and have some tea with a local family – a unique experience to say the least. After recharging the batteries, we’ll hop back into our Jeep and head out towards the dunes, where we’ll get down to some serious sandboarding! You’ll be shown a couple of techniques from your local guide, as well as given a few safety tips, and then the dunes are all yours to conquer. Just remember that you have to climb back up the dunes once you’ve boarded down it! Finally, no doubt exhausted from all that surfing, we’ll get back into the Jeep and drive back to Sharm el-Sheikh. Cairo flight and tour As soon as you land in Cairo from Sharm el Sheik you will feel as you stepped back to the days of ancient Egypt. You'll visit Cairo's most famous sites including the Great Pyramids and Sphinx, Egyptian Museum and finish up among the souq. Meeting at the Cairo airport with our Egyptologist guide, with whom you will step into the Land of the Pharaohs and discover the exotic charms of antique Egypt. Luxor flight & Tour Our qualified Egyptologist guide will pick you up from your hotel and escort you to the Sharm airport and assist you with the check in procedures. Your flight to Luxor is 45 minutes. Upon arrival at Luxor airport our friendly representative will welcome you to Luxor and introduce you to your experienced English-speaking Egyptologist guide who will be in your company all day. Drive from the East to the West Bank which was believed by the ancient Egyptians to be the city of death, it is there where the sun sets and disappears in the underworld and this is why all the tombs are located there. You will start your visit with the Valley of the Kings, a magnificent architecture which was used for burial of many kings (the best known of the tombs are those of King Tutmosis I, Tutmosis III, Tutankhamen, King Ramssess VI, King Mrenptah and Amonhotep II). You will then visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, which was built by Queen Hatshepsut, daughter of Thutmosis I, who ruled Egypt for around 20 years during the 18th Dynasty (1490–1469 B.C), the only Pharaonic woman who reigned ancient Egypt. You will then pass by the Colossi of Memnon for about 15 minutes – this is what remained from the big mortuary temple of Amunhotep 111. The façade of the temple was being restored but the whole building was damaged by an earthquake and left only these 2 statues. It is a very nice place to take photos of these two huge statues, the Nile, the farms and also the West bank with the beautiful backdrop of the mountains. You will then head back to the East bank in Luxor where you will have lunch at local restaurant. Afterwards continue your tour to visit Karnak Temples, the greatest example of worship in Egyptian history, dedicated to the God Amon, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu. End your tour by visiting the Temple Of Luxor. It was built by Amunhotep III in 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom and it was completed by Ramesses II during the 19th Dynasty. Return to Luxor Airport for your flight back to Sharm. A rep will meet you again upon arrival in Sharm airport and transfer you back to your hotel. Please note!
