Menorca (also spelt Minorca) is the low-key sister island to Majorca and as with most sisters they’re so different. Menorca is only 32 miles long by nine miles wide and offers a variety of beaches ranging from rocky inlets (with some pebbles and sand) to silver-sanded gently curving bays which are great for children. Development has been strictly controlled and there are parts of the island - especially in the rural parts that remain untouched.

The islands capital is Mahon which has a lovely natural harbour and not so natural airport. Mahon has some upmarket hotels but its main attraction must be its cafes and restaurants that line the harbour. The capital is also the home of the world famous Minorca Gin which is still produced today using the same age-old process it has used for centuries. Moving away from Mahon this beautiful island offers some idyllic holiday resorts like the fishing village of Fornells with its wide bay that offers some great windsurfing and watersports. Other popular beach resorts include Cala Galdana, Santo Tomas and Son Bou which has a long sandy beach with a few shops, restaurants, bars and the odd discotheque.
